Children of Men is a futuristic film which takes place in England in 2027.
A catastrophic event causes infertility to the whole world and this leads to suicides and terror. The last government standing is England, while others are at the brink of collapse. While this goes on, Theo, the main character is issued a mission by his ex-wife who is the leader of the rebels.He has to save a pregnant woman, the first in 18 years , and join a special team called: ''The Human Project''' with one purpose:
Save the human race.
The film is extremely agonizing, and it shows exactly what survival of the fittest means. For example, a terrorist team wants to take the child and use it for their own purposes, referring to fame,money and recruitment of more men.
In my opinion, the film is to be seen and it connects with reality; this plague may happen at any moment <... >
However, it must not be characterised as a traditional thriller or a chase movie. After all, that's what I'm describing here.
Back to the story, Theo ends up on the run with the only pregnant mother by his protection while being chased by the military,some rebels and nearly everyone in Britain. But he refuses to turn it into a post-apocalyptic event.
As I see it, the film seems more interested in exploring the consequences of a future in which mankind is done for, than describing individuals who are truly and completely hopeless.
Children of Men manages to balance the demands of both action and razor sharp intelligence with admirable ability. It does what all great science fiction do: entertains while making you think.
